WHY TO PRE WASH?
When receiving a new pair of goalkeeper gloves it really important to give them a 'pre wash'.
the pre wash is an important process as it will prepare your gloves for there first outing.
why would you wash something that's brand new you might ask?
During the manufacturing process additives are added to the latex in order to preserve and protect it. when you first take out your gloves the grip may feel excellent however these additives if left will hamper the performance of your gloves.
how do i pre wash?
Simply remove the gloves from all the packaging including any plastic protecting the palm latex. If your gloves have removable finger spines these need to also be removed as to prevent them from damage during the pre wash.
Use a bowl or sink of luke warm water around 30 degrees centigrade. We find it an effective way to put one glove on and submerge into the bowl. Then using your free hand just work the palm latex with your fingers to help release the additives. you can squeeze the gloves during
this process to remove excess water. repeat this process with the opposite glove.Once you are satisfied that all the additives have been removed from the palm you just need to squeeze the glove to remove the majority of the water. try not to twist/ring out your gloves as this may damage the materials they are made from.
to dry your gloves you should leave them in a ventilated room face down on a dry towel to pull out any remaining water.
It is very important that you DO NOT attempt to dry your gloves in direct sunlight or via any source of direct heat as this will dry out the palm latex and seriously affect the performance.
GOING FORWARD.
Take care of your gloves and they will take care of you!
clean your gloves regularly by following the above process. there are several products on the market designed to aid glove washing but if you do not wish to use these then the simple steps above will help you keep your gloves performing for longer.
when using your gloves to activate them to perform at there best keep the palm damp. this softens the palm latex and also helps prevent wear and tear
